Which 11th Edition codexes are out now?
Three 11th Edition codexes are out now: Orks, Space Marines and Adeptus Custodes. Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition itself launched on Saturday, June 20, 2026 in the Armageddon launch box, with pre-orders opening on Saturday, June 6, 2026, and the codex rollout followed in the autumn.
| Codex | Pre-order date | Release date | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Codex: Orks | Saturday, August 22, 2026 | Saturday, September 5, 2026 | Out now, first 11th Edition codex |
| Codex: Space Marines | September 2026 | Saturday, October 3, 2026 | Out now |
| Codex: Adeptus Custodes | Saturday, October 3, 2026 | Saturday, October 17, 2026 | Out now, final codex of 2026 |
Codex: Orks set the template for the edition: a softback book in a slipcase at a smaller size than the 10th Edition books, a Collector’s Edition hardback for collectors, an expanded lore bestiary, a collector’s guide to building themed armies, and a code in the back that unlocks the rules in the Warhammer 40,000 app plus extra content and digital drops through the life of the edition. Codexes cost $62 in the US after the Games Workshop price increase that took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026.
When is the next Warhammer 40k codex release?
There is no next codex date to announce yet. Games Workshop confirmed in its Autumn Preview question and answer session that Adeptus Custodes is the final codex release of 2026, so the next 11th Edition codex will arrive in 2027 at the earliest, and the publisher has not named which faction is next.
That pause is the confirmed position, not a gap in this tracker. Every faction in the table below is still waiting for its 11th Edition book, and this page will add a date only when Games Workshop announces one.

One related release is already confirmed without a codex: the Legion of the Damned will not get a dedicated codex, and its lore and rules for the Damned Legionnaires arrive in the first Codex: Space Marines digital drop, per the same Games Workshop question and answer session.
When will Games Workshop publish the 2027 codex roadmap?
Games Workshop says a new codex roadmap is coming in the new year, and it suggested the roadmap could appear during its next preview. In the Autumn Preview question and answer session the publisher described 2027 as bursting with Warhammer 40,000 content, but it gave no date for the roadmap itself and no faction order, so this tracker treats every 2027 codex as unannounced until that roadmap lands.
Can you still use a 10th Edition codex in 11th Edition?
Yes. Games Workshop confirmed at the 11th Edition announcement that current 10th Edition codexes and faction rules remain valid in 11th Edition, including the rules in recent campaign supplements, until each faction’s new codex replaces them. That is a change from the start of 10th Edition in 2023, when the previous books were replaced at launch by temporary index rules for every army.
The final 10th Edition codex was Codex: Drukhari, which went up for pre-order on Saturday, September 27, 2025 and released on Saturday, October 11, 2025. If your faction is in the waiting table above, your 10th Edition book is still your current book.
