What is asmodeeaccess.com?

asmodeeaccess.com is a free hub with a selection of games searchable by their accessibility features, game guides, printable resources and articles connecting play with research. Each game listing explains its accessibility features and the skills engaged by its mechanics. The game guides give advice on facilitating play and adapting games, and the hub adds printable resources and accessory recommendations. Asmodee is one of the biggest names in tabletop, and its recent Gamefound campaign for Arkham Horror Remastered passed $2 million, as we reported in our Arkham Horror Remastered coverage.

What is changing inside Asmodee’s studios?

asmodee access+ is now a group-wide programme across Asmodee’s creative studios, with new design guidelines for its studios, extending the adapted games range that began for people living with cognitive disabilities such as dementia, autism and learning disabilities. The programme was developed with researchers, healthcare professionals and accessibility specialists, and it aims to reduce motor, sensory and cognitive barriers, shaping how games are designed as well as played. It is the latest move from the group connected to events such as SPIEL Essen, which set a visitor record this year, as we covered in our SPIEL Essen record visitors post.

Why is Asmodee doing this?

Asmodee’s cited research found that over a quarter (25%) of the more than 1,500 players it surveyed report mental health or neurodiversity conditions that often involve specific needs requiring attention. “With asmodee access+, we want to make accessibility a shared practice that drives change across our industry,” said Arianna Ryan, Asmodee’s Chief People Officer and EVP Sustainability. Asmodee hopes the hub encourages the use of games at home, in classrooms, and in care and support settings.
