One of the most beloved board games of the 2000s is coming back, and it is taking Fantasy Flight Games somewhere it has never gone before: crowdfunding.
Fantasy Flight has announced Arkham Horror Remastered, a full remaster of Arkham Horror 2nd Edition, the cooperative horror board game first released in 2005. The campaign launches on Gamefound on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 3 PM Eastern, and FFG says it is the company’s first-ever crowdfunding campaign. It is also the first release in the new Vault Series, FFG’s line for bringing out-of-print classics back from the vault.
The game itself is the same Arkham Horror veterans remember. One to eight players take on the roles of investigators in Arkham, Massachusetts in 1926, racing to close the dimensional gates tearing open across the city before an Ancient One awakens. The base game includes 16 investigators, each managing stamina and sanity as they fight or sneak past the monsters prowling the streets.
What has changed is the presentation. FFG says nearly every piece of art in the game has been updated and the graphic design overhauled from the ground up, while the rulebook has been rewritten to the company’s modern standard for clarity. The gameplay and numbers are unchanged. Small quality-of-life touches are in too, like a new Upkeep symbol printed on components as a reminder of what triggers each round, and a few monsters have new names or looks without any mechanical changes.
The expansions are all here as well. Dunwich Horror, Kingsport Horror, and Innsmouth Horror return, Cosmic Horror combines four classic expansions into one, and Miskatonic Horror adds its resources on top. FFG notes the exact arrangement of expansion content may differ from the original releases, but all of the gameplay content is included. Stretch goals and backer-exclusive content are planned, with details saved for the campaign itself. FFG is also hosting a pre-launch discussion stream on October 20 ahead of the launch.
It is a notable move for one of the hobby’s biggest publishers. FFG has sold games at retail for decades, but it has never asked backers to fund one directly. The campaign joins a Gamefound season that has already seen Nemesis: Legacy pass 5.7 million euros, and if the Vault Series works, Arkham Horror may not be the last classic to come back this way.
