When does the Kickstarter campaign run?

The campaign runs from today, Tuesday, October 20, 2026, through Wednesday, November 18, 2026. Kess Entertainment’s own banner for the game confirms both dates, and the Kickstarter page was still showing as a preview page this morning ahead of the launch. Pledge prices had not been published before launch, so the full tier list appears when the campaign goes live.

The game adapts the Pixel Remaster editions of Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II, and Final Fantasy III. KessCo and Square Enix announced the licensing deal in February 2026, and the game has since been demoed at MagicCon Las Vegas and at Gen Con.

How does Origins of Light play?

Players build a party of heroes, equip them with spells and gear, and head into dungeons to fight monsters and bosses before time runs out. Parties move across boards based on the maps of the three games, visiting towns to spend Gil on healing, weapons, items, and magic. Kess Entertainment’s official trailer lists both cooperative and competitive modes.

Which Final Fantasy games are included?

Three modules are included, one for each of the first three Final Fantasy games, and the Final Fantasy I module is the core of the game.

Module Heroes How it plays
Final Fantasy I Six classic jobs: Warrior, Monk, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage, and Red Mage The core module, and the simplest campaign structure
Final Fantasy II Nine named heroes, including Firion A roguelite style campaign
Final Fantasy III A drafted roster of job variants The hardest module of the three

The module details above come from iXBT.games and ICv2. Delivery is planned for May or June 2027 if the campaign funds, according to iXBT.games.

How many players does it support, and how long does it take?

Origins of Light supports 1 to 4 players, plays in 90 to 180 minutes, and is rated for ages 12 and up, according to Kess Entertainment’s game page. The player count includes a solo ruleset, so one player can run a full party alone.
